Tips to get high quality audio from your IP-camera

Panasonic cameras with built-in MIC (e.g. BL-C131) give good quality audio and are simple to use. The only adjustment needed is setting the ‘microphone sensitivity’ (in the setup menu) depending upon how far is the camera from the sound source.

Panasonic cameras with external MIC (e.g. BB-HCM581) deliver high-quality audio with the proper setup. A few tips to get high-quality audio

1) If direct output from a sound system is available, use that. As it will deliver the highest quality.

2) Make sure all the cable connections fit properly - camera-to-splitter cable, splitter-audio cable to extension audio cable (if any), audio cable to MIC or sound source.

3) Use good quality audio cables. Avoid excessive cable length as that will degrade the audio quality.

4) For carrying audio across longer distances, it is better to have one long high-quality cable rather than multiple shorter cables. The additional connectors will degrade the sound quality.

If a wireless MIC is possible, use that.

5) Series terminate the audio-cable as recommended in the 581’s Installation guide, else you will hear line noise in the background.

6) Adjust the microphone sensitivity on the camera as required

 
Choosing a MIC
1) Use a Spherical MIC when possible, as they, typically, give the best audio quality

2) If the sound source is far from the camera, use a wireless MIC e.g. Karaoke MIC’s
